Yorktown police reported several recent arrests, including a weapons charge following a domestic-related investigation, appearance tickets issued to four men in an open container incident, and two Brooklyn men charged in a CVS package theft case linked to a similar incident in Connecticut.
Yorktown police arrested 50-year-old Charles Waryha on weapons charges after he voluntarily surrendered at police headquarters April 9 during an investigation.
He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony, and unlawful possession of an ammunition feeding device, a class B misdemeanor.
Police said the Yorktown man previously surrendered firearms following a domestic incident. During an inventory and investigation, officers alleged one firearm had characteristics of an illegal assault weapon and that he possessed 30-round rifle and pistol magazines.
He was arraigned in Yorktown Justice Court. Bail was set at $15,000 cash, $30,000 bond or $50,000 partially secured bond. He was remanded to Westchester County Jail after failing to post bail and is due back in court Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Yorktown police issued appearance tickets to four Ossining men after officers observed them allegedly in possession of open alcoholic beverages in a public place about 12:25 a.m. April 11 on Commerce Street, authorities said.
Police said officers on routine patrol saw the men with open containers. The men, ages 24, 26, 27 and 34, were each issued appearance tickets for possession of an alcoholic beverage in a public place, a town code violation.
They are scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court May 12 at 4 p.m.
Yorktown police arrested two Brooklyn men after they allegedly stole a package from a CVS on Commerce Street and used fraudulent identification, authorities said.
Police said the men — 37-year-old Alexis Corniel Moronta and 35-year-old Gabriel Moronta — are accused of taking a package delivered to the Commerce Street CVS, valued at about $3,048, after one of them allegedly posed as the intended recipient last November.
Detectives later linked the case to a similar incident in Greenwich, Connecticut, leading to the identification of both suspects and warrants in New York and Connecticut, authorities said.
Alexis Corniel Moronta was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony, first-degree identity theft, a class D felony, and fugitive from justice, a class A misdemeanor. Gabriel Moronta was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony, and fugitive from justice, a class A misdemeanor.
Police said the men surrendered April 9 at Yorktown police headquarters. They were arraigned in Yorktown Justice Court, released on their own recognizance on the larceny and identity theft charges, and are scheduled to appear again May 14 at 6 p.m.
