A three-vehicle personal injury motor vehicle collision in Cortlandt took the life of a Yorktown Heights resident, according to state police.

The fatal incident took place around 5 a.m. Saturday on Bear Mountain Parkway between Locust Avenue and Arlo Lane.

Police identified the victim as 28-year-old Darly G. Bravo Coello of Yorktown Heights.

A preliminary investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Cortlandt and the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit found that Coello was driving a Subaru westbound on Bear Mountain Parkway when the vehicle crossed the double yellow line and collided head-on with a Honda driven by Charles D. Mooney, 54, of New Windsor.

The impact pushed the Honda onto the north shoulder of the parkway.

A Toyota driven by Manuel S. Pauta Zhingri, 44, of Peekskill, then struck the disabled Subaru while traveling eastbound. Investigators said Coello had exited the Subaru after the initial crash and was struck by the Toyota while outside the vehicle.

The drivers of the Honda and Toyota were taken to area hospitals with injuries not considered life-threatening, state police said.

Coello was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
