Two acclaimed classics, one exceptional season at The Schoolhouse Theater

'The wit is dazzling, the characters are irresistible, and beneath all the sparkle is a love story that keeps surprising us. If audiences leave the theatre smiling, laughing, and wishing they could spend another evening with these characters, we'll have done our job.'”

Experience the magic of live theater at The Schoolhouse Theater in North Salem, a beloved cultural destination that has earned a loyal following throughout the Hudson Valley. Known for presenting exceptional productions in an intimate setting, the theater continues its tradition of bringing acclaimed performances and outstanding talent to the local stage.

The new season opens Sept. 4-20 with Noël Coward's sparkling comedy Private Lives, directed by Schoolhouse Theater’s award-winning artistic director, Owen Thompson.

"Private Lives is simply one of the great nights in the theatre," says Thompson. "It is glamorous, sexy, sophisticated, and laugh-out-loud funny. Noël Coward had an extraordinary gift for writing dialogue that still feels fresh and exhilarating. The wit is dazzling, the characters are irresistible, and beneath all the sparkle is a love story that keeps surprising us. If audiences leave the theatre smiling, laughing, and wishing they could spend another evening with these characters, we'll have done our job."

The production follows divorced couple Elyot and Amanda, who unexpectedly find themselves honeymooning with their new spouses in adjoining hotel rooms. What begins as an awkward reunion quickly erupts into a whirlwind of romance, sharp wit and irresistible chemistry. The classic remains as entertaining today as when it first premiered.

The season continues Dec. 4-20 with James Goldman's Academy Award winning drama, The Lion in Winter. Set during Christmas in 1183, the story places audiences inside England's royal court, where King Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine and their ambitious sons engage in a fierce battle for power, loyalty and the throne. Filled with brilliant dialogue, biting humor and unforgettable performances, the timeless drama explores family relationships that feel remarkably relevant today.

The Schoolhouse Theater is also offering one of its best values of the season. For $135, subscribers receive admission to both productions, plus a special evening of live music with Peter Calo or a LoHud Comedy performance featuring top New York City comedians.
