SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. - For a century, generations of families have gathered along the shores of Truesdale Lake to swim, paddle, sail, fish and enjoy the sense of community that comes with life on the water. This weekend, residents will come together to celebrate that history and the people who have helped shape the lake community.

The Truesdale Lake Property Owners Association (TLPOA) will host its Centennial Weekend from Friday, Sept. 25, through Sunday, Sept. 27, with family activities, athletic competitions, an adults-only celebration and a community boat parade planned throughout the three-day event.

While Truesdale Lake itself dates back further, 1926 marked the beginning of the lake community being celebrated this year. That was when the Truesdale Lake Corporation began developing the area as a year-round community.

One hundred years later, many of the activities around the lake remain familiar, from swimming and boating to gathering with neighbors and volunteering to care for the lake. The Centennial Weekend will recognize that continuing tradition and the generations of families and volunteers who have contributed to the community.

"We aren't simply celebrating 100 years of a lake—we're celebrating 100 years of community around it," organizers said, emphasizing the importance of honoring the people who have helped preserve the lake's traditions and stewardship.

The weekend will begin on Friday, Sept. 25, with Family Night at the TLPOA Beach from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The family-friendly gathering will feature food, music, children's activities and ice cream cake, giving residents an opportunity to kick off the celebration together.

On Saturday morning, Sept. 26, residents can take part in the Centennial Triathlon and Duathlon. The events will bring a little friendly competition to the weekend, with participants competing around the lake.

Saturday evening will feature the centerpiece of the celebration, the Centennial Celebration at Gilbert Street Beach, beginning at 6 p.m. The adults-only event will include food, drinks, live music and dancing as residents gather to toast 100 years of the Truesdale Lake community and the generations of neighbors who have helped make it what it is today.

The weekend will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 27, with a Centennial Boat Parade at 3 p.m. Residents are invited to decorate their canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, Sunfish and other lake boats before joining the parade. Those who prefer to stay on land can cheer on the participants from shore.

In addition to the scheduled events, residents will have an opportunity to explore the lake's history through a special "100 Years Around Truesdale Lake" history walk and scavenger hunt. The approximately 2.75-mile route begins and ends at the Lewisboro Town House, with stops highlighting the history of the lake, its neighborhoods and the generations of volunteers who have helped care for it.

The walk will be available electronically ahead of the weekend, with printed copies also provided for residents who wish to take the route during the celebration. Organizers expressed special appreciation to Priscilla for putting together the history walk.

Although the Centennial marks an important milestone, the celebration is intended to recognize more than the passage of time. It is an opportunity to acknowledge the families, neighbors and volunteers whose contributions have helped maintain the traditions and stewardship of Truesdale Lake.

From activities on the water to gatherings on the beaches, the weekend will bring residents together to celebrate the community's history while looking ahead to the next generation of life around the lake.
