TRA to assume medical transportation services from RideConnect

TRA Group Inc. has assumed responsibility for key medical transportation services previously provided by RideConnect at Family Services of Westchester.

In a prepared statement, TRA Group Inc. said the move would ensure that vital access to health care remains available for older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout Westchester and Putnam counties and parts of southwest Connecticut.

Since its inception in 2011, TRA has aided thousands of older adults and adults with low vision who lack access to reliable transportation and essential information to help them live independently. With RideConnect transitioning out of service, TRA is stepping up to preserve nonemergency medical ride access—a lifeline for many residents who depend on these services to reach critical health care appointments.

“This transition underscores TRA’s unwavering commitment to providing safe, compassionate and consistent transportation for those who need it most,” said Catherine Wynkoop, president of TRA Group Inc.

The transition will take place gradually over the coming months to ensure a seamless experience for both current RideConnect and TRA riders and volunteers. TRA said it will prioritize continuity of care, doing everything possible to integrate new riders and new volunteer drivers without disruption to existing services.

TRA currently serves about 1,800 registered riders and works with a network of volunteer drivers, who together have completed more than 43,000 rides since 2011. By welcoming former RideConnect volunteers and riders, TRA aims to strengthen its impact and expand transportation access to a growing population in need.

Throughout this transition, TRA remains focused on stability, compassion, and service. While RideConnect’s general community transportation services will wind down, TRA’s expanded program will continue to focus on nonemergency medical rides, supporting doctor visits, treatments and other essential health care needs.
