The Town of Carmel has declared a snow emergency effective Sunday, Jan. 25, through midnight Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Supervisor Mike Cazzari said all vehicles must be removed from roadways by Sunday to make way for the Highway Department’s snowplows.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has also issued a snow/extreme-cold advisory from 3 p.m. Sunday to 6 p.m. Monday.

The Sheriff’s Office urges the following:

  • Avoid nonessential travel.

  • Prepare emergency supplies ahead of time.

  • Travel only if absolutely necessary and use extreme caution.

  • Give plows and emergency services space.

  • Monitor official updates on social media.

The Carmel Town Hall at 60 McAlpin Ave. in Mahopac has been designated a warming and charging station for Monday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Mahopac Library will be closed Sunday and will close at 3 p.m. Saturday. Residents are encouraged to stop by and pick up items they may need for the snowy weekend, such as books, magazines, games, DVDs and puzzles. The library’s digital collection includes e-books, audiobooks, music and movies. More information is available at mahopaclibrary.org.
