PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. — Tompkins Corners Cultural Center will celebrate the 84th birthday of Bob Dylan with an afternoon of live music, poetry, and storytelling on Saturday, May 24, from 2 to 5 p.m.
The event, which also marks the 10th anniversary season of Tompkins Corners, will feature performances inspired by Dylan’s influential career and cultural legacy.
Headlining the celebration is The Complete Unknowns, a dynamic group known for their eclectic, electric interpretations of Dylan’s work. The band—composed of Nick Attila (violin, guitar, vocals), Stephen Caldwell (bass), Jim Meigs (harmonica, vocals), Michael Moses (drums, percussion), and Larry Gardner (keyboards)—will also play music by The Grateful Dead, The Band, and others. Special guest Jacob Lee Bernz is slated to perform a set of early acoustic Dylan songs.
In addition to the music, the afternoon will include poetry readings, special guests, and a tribute to the late John Cohen, a founding member of Tompkins Corners who photographed a young Dylan in New York City and Putnam Valley.
Local artisans will offer crafts for sale, including work by Kate Hoekstra, Denise Leaden (Simple Silver), Nancy Holmes Doyle (Bogside Pottery), Ivy Kelly (Whims and Mystical Fiberworks), and Marlene Ratliff (Hand Made on the Hudson).
The family-friendly celebration will take place outdoors, weather permitting, with attendees encouraged to bring picnics, lawn chairs, and a love for Dylan’s music. In the event of rain, the festivities will be held indoors.
A $20 donation is suggested. Admission is free for children and students. Beverages, snacks, and Tompkins Corners’ signature home-baked goods will be available for purchase.
