SOMERS, N.Y. - The community can attend a mental health seminar and several festive events at Somers Library.

Adult Mental Health First Aid

Presented by Somers Partners in Prevention, to be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 in the Somers Town House Meeting Room at 335 Route 202. Mental Health First Aid trains adults to identify mental health signs and symptoms and gives the skills and resources to provide initial support, and connect individuals with professional help. Kids Paint-a-Pumpkin

From 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8. Presented by Alan Briones, Marie Nania, and Farah Cleary. Halloween is just around the corner, so why not come and decorate your own pumpkin? In collaboration with the Parks and Recreation department, the library is excited to present this fun opportunity to make some beautiful Pumpkin art! This program will be held in the park pavilion, and will also have lawn games and other activities to make it a whole fun event that you won’t want to miss. All materials will be provided for this program, including one pumpkin per child and washable paint. Best for ages 4 & up, but all children are welcome! Register online or by calling the library.

Halloween Anime Special - Kamishibai

From 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8. Presented by Terre Thomas. Halloween calls for something creepy. This anime program combines history, tradition and horror! Kamishibai is a traditional Japanese form of storytelling that literally translates to “paper theater” and it is the forerunner of manga and anime. The library is lucky to have Caroline Jordet to come talk about this tradition. Everyone will also be watching an anime which combines horror with the art of Kamishibai. Snacks will be provided! Walk-ins welcome though registration helps us to plan snacks and drinks. Register online or by calling the library.

Babysitting 101

From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10. Presented by Denise Schirmer. This course is available to youth ages 11 and older. Attendees will be introduced to the world of babysitting by learning about the responsibilities of the sitter as well as of the parents of the children they are sitting for, emergencies and safety, infant care, playing and how to secure a babysitting job. There will be a simple true/false test given at the end of the class. All participants will receive a certificate of completion.

Pizza lunch will be served. Not a pizza fan? Feel free to bring a nut-free, alternative lunch. Please remember a notebook, snacks and a drink. Register online or by calling the library.
