Things to do in Yorktown Sept. 19-25

WEATHER UPDATE: Due to rain in the forecast, the San Gennaro Feast scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20, has been canceled. The Mobile Food Pantry originally scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20, has been rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

San Gennaro Feast

The San Gennaro Feast returns to Yorktown Heights for its 10th anniversary, featuring five nights of Italian food, amusement rides, games, music, beer and wine. The festival continues through Sunday, Sept. 20, on Commerce Street and at Railroad Park. Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. The Sunday, Sept. 20, feast day was canceled due to rain in the forecast, town officials told Yorktown News.

Live entertainment will be featured throughout the festival, with performances by Johnny Sal and DJ Mikey Love, Antonio Guarna, Biagio, Maria Venuto and Ella Cristina, Pane e Cioccolato, and Angelo Venuto, Lisa Messina and John Micalizzi. Feast DJ Steve Raguso also will perform.

Paws Crossed Day and 5K

Paws Crossed will host its 11th annual Paws Crossed Day and sixth annual 5K Saturday, Sept. 19, at FDR State Park in Yorktown. The 5K will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will feature vendors, food trucks, entertainment, children’s activities, an alumni table and pet adoptions.

DISCover Ultimate Day

Yorktown Parks and Recreation and USA Ultimate will host a free ultimate frisbee clinic for middle-school-aged children from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Hunterbrook Fields, 2408 Hunterbrook Rd.

The clinic is part of the second annual DISCover Ultimate Day, a nationwide initiative introducing children to the sport through basic rules, skills, drills and disc games. The clinic will be led by Parks and Recreation Superintendent Jim Martorano, who is USA Ultimate coach and SafeSport certified.

The clinic is designed for new players ages 10-14, but all are welcome. Participants must register through the Community Pass system. Children who register and attend will receive a free Discraft UltraStar, the official game disc of USA Ultimate.

Mobile Food Pantry

Feeding Westchester and Freedom Chapel will host a mobile food pantry for community members seeking food assistance Sunday, Sept. 20, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Jefferson on the Lake, 489 E. Main St. in Jefferson Valley. The Sunday, Sept. 20, mobile food pantry was canceled due to rain in the forecast. It will now be held Sunday, Sept. 27, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Garden Tours

The Garden Club of Yorktown will host public tours of its native garden at The Veteran Memorials Circle Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. This is a kid-friendly event.

Original Musical

“This Man’s a Spy,” an original musical about Benedict Arnold’s treasonous plot involving British Maj. John André, will be performed Sunday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown, 2880 Crompond Rd. The free performance will highlight Yorktown’s role in the Revolutionary War story.

Model Train Workshop

The Yorktown Museum will host a model train-making workshop Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to noon on the top floor of the Albert A. Capellini Community & Cultural Center, 1974 Commerce St. The workshop is for ages 12 and older and will focus on model train building and set design. The cost is $5 cash, and registration is required at museum@yorktownny.gov.

Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center

Cultivating Resilience: An Evening Retreat for Agriculture Workers, 5 to 8 p.m Tuesday, Sept. 22. Agriculture workers are invited to an evening retreat focused on well-being and resilience. The free program will provide an opportunity for participants to step away from their work and focus on personal wellness. Registration is required. Click here to register.

Farm-to-Fable: 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, children ages 3 to 6 can explore the farm through storytelling and hands-on activities inspired by each tale. Pay what you want. Also offered Sept. 27. Registration required. Click here to register.

Farm Stand: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Thursday, Sept. 24, browse seasonal produce and other offerings at the farm stand, including tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, peppers, squash and leafy greens. The farm stand is open Thursdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Thanksgiving. Chabad of Yorktown

Chabad of Yorktown, 2629 Old Yorktown Road, Yorktown Heights, holds weekly Shabbat services Saturday mornings, followed by a community Kiddush luncheon. The center also offers Hebrew school for children ages 5-13, with no synagogue membership required. Register at ChabadYorktown.com/HebrewSchool.

High Holiday services are open to the public, with no membership or affiliation required. Yom Kippur services are Sept. 20-21. Hebrew-English prayerbooks and a children’s program will be available. RSVP at ChabadYorktown.com or 914-962-1111.

A festive Sukkot dinner at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25 will celebrate the joy of the holiday with delicious food and warm community beneath the sukkah. Special edible sukkah for children.

Chavura Beth Chai

Chavura Beth Chai will hold free High Holy Days services open to the community. Yom Kippur services are scheduled for 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, and 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, with Yizkor at 4 p.m. and Neila at 5 p.m., followed by break-fast. Donations are encouraged. Joey Fecci Foundation

Established in May 2024, the Joey Fecci Foundation honors Joey Fecci, a young chef whose passion for the culinary arts inspired those around him. Following his death on April 27, 2024, the foundation was established to carry on his legacy.

The second annual Joey Fecci Foundation Golf Outing will be held Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Anglebrook Golf Club in Lincolndale. Registration, putting contests and breakfast will begin at 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. shotgun start. A dinner and awards ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. The cost is $500 per golfer or $1,900 for a foursome. Dinner-only tickets are $200 and include beer, wine and liquor.

Book Sale

The Friends of the John C. Hart Library will hold its annual book sale from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26; noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28.

Friday's sale is open to Friends members only, though nonmembers can sign up that day and receive a coupon for two free books. A bake sale will be held Saturday, while raffle tickets for an iPad basket and a 50-50 raffle will be available throughout the four-day event. Monday will be $5 Bag Day.
