Yorktown residents can look forward to a weekend of theater, community events, sports and more, with activities continuing through next week.
Yorktown Stage will present “Cabaret” throughout the weekend, including on Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. at Yorktown Stage, 268 Veterans Rd. The production, performed by an elite cast of high school students, is set in a Berlin nightclub as the 1920s come to a close. The show explores mature themes and is rated PG-13.
The Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, will be celebrated with a blessing of animals outside the main church at St. Patrick’s Church on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Pets should be leashed or in crates at the request of the church. St. Patrick’s Church is at 137 Moseman Rd., Yorktown Heights.
First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown will host its annual Blessing of the Pets on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. in the back parking lot. Community members are invited to bring their pets for a ceremony and individual blessings led by Pastors Chip Low and Tami Seidel. Families may also bring photos of pets who are sick, unable to attend or who have died in recent years. The church is at 2880 Crompond Rd., Yorktown Heights.
Saturday, Oct. 3, 6 p.m. at Lakeland High School football field. The boys varsity football team will face Mahopac, with Hall of Fame inductees announced at halftime.
Support Connection’s annual Support-A-Walk for Breast & Ovarian Cancer will begin with activities at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at FDR State Park. The event raises funds for free support services for people affected by breast, ovarian and other gynecological cancers. Activities will include survivor activities, team photos, music, children’s activities, refreshments and a warm-up led by a Club Fit instructor. The walk will begin at 10 a.m. following a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Bulk trash collection is for bulky household items, including furniture, mattresses, appliances, rugs, lamps, curtains and blinds, bicycles and bags of small items. Section 1 will be collected on Monday, Oct. 5.
Yorktown Parks and Recreation will host a Halloween drawing event at the Albert A. Capellini Community & Cultural Center. Participants will be assigned a section of the hallway and create a Halloween scene on paper. Cider and treats will be provided. The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 8, with sessions from 4 to 5 p.m. and 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. The cost is $5 per participant. Preregistration is recommended through CommunityPass.
The Westchester County Youth Bureau and Youth Board are accepting nominations for the annual Youth Service Awards, which recognize 11th- and 12th-grade students who live in Westchester County and have demonstrated leadership and service to their communities.
Nomination criteria and the nomination form are available at youth.westchestercountyny.gov/events-and-award-ceremonies. Completed forms must be submitted by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. The awards ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at the Michaelian Office Building in White Plains. Yorktown Community Nursery School is collecting gently used toys, clothing and household items for its annual tag sale. Donations will be collected daily from Oct. 9 through 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at 247 Veterans Rd. Proceeds will benefit the nursery school.
