Town Green—the community events roundup in the print edition of Yorktown News—is always on the lookout for community events, and we often find them by accident. If you have a fundraiser, drive for donations, non-profit class or performance, meet-up, or anything you think your neighbors would like to know about, submit it to us at yorktownnews@halstonmedia.com with “Town Green” in the subject line. We can’t guarantee that every submission will get in but we’ll do our best.
From repairing broken household items to enjoying live music and outdoor movies, Yorktown has several community events and programs coming up in the weeks ahead. Here are some local activities, services and happenings to mark on your calendar.
Grace Lutheran Church (3830 Gomer St.) will host the next Yorktown Repair Cafe from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday July 25.
Want to get some of your broken items back in service and keep them out of the waste stream? The folks at the Repair Cafe may be able to help. Lamps, small appliances, bikes, clocks, fabrics, toys, wooden items,
crockery, jewelry, computers and electronics — anything broken is welcome at the Repair Cafe.
Volunteer specialists will assess whether an item can be repaired and, if possible, fix it for free. Use the Yorktown Repair Cafe page on Signup Genius to register, or just walk in.
The Yorktown Lions Club will host its 31st annual Summer Concert Series at 6 p.m. Sundays at Jack DeVito Field Veterans Plaza. The free, family-friendly series features live music in the park and is held rain or shine.
Upcoming performances include Radio Flashback on July 26, The Taylor Swift Experience on Aug. 9, Jessica Lynn on Aug. 16 and Tramps Like Us on Aug. 23, which begins at 5 p.m. for the Veterans Appreciation Show.
Section 6 bulk trash collection will take place Monday, July 27. Section 7 will be collected Monday, Aug. 3. Collection is for bulky household items only, including furniture, mattresses, appliances, rugs, lamps, curtains, blinds, bicycles and bags of small household items.
