A nor’easter is expected to bring rain and strong winds to the region this weekend, potentially affecting outdoor activities. Before heading out, check event organizers’ websites and social media pages for cancellations, postponements or schedule changes.
Weather permitting, here’s what’s happening in Mahopac and Carmel from Sept. 26 through Oct. 8.
Now happening Oct. 3: The town of Carmel will hold a Shred Event for town residents from 9 a.m. to noon at 179 East Lake Blvd., at the corner of Croton Falls Road. Proof of Carmel residency is required.
Residents may bring a maximum of three file boxes per car. Only paper will be accepted; plastics, CDs, DVDs, X-rays, hard drives, three-ring binders and binder clips are prohibited.

Mahopac American Legion Post 1080 will host a steak dinner with whiskey and cigars. Happy hour will run from 4 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $60, with proceeds benefiting American Legion programs. The Crew will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. at Chamber Park, 953 South Lake Blvd., as part of the Town of Carmel’s Fall Concert Series.
The Carmel Farmers Market at Lake Mahopac will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Chamber Park, 953 South Lake Blvd. The market continues every Sunday through Oct. 18.
The Putnam County Department of Health will offer seasonal flu vaccinations to county residents 18 and older from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Carmel Fire Department, 94 Gleneida Ave.
The vaccine costs $30, payable by cash or credit card. A $2 fee applies to credit card payments. Vaccinations are free for those 65 and older or with a Medicare card. Proof of Putnam County residency is required.

The Putnam County Firearm Owners Association will host a Candidates Night at 7 p.m. at the Paladin Center, 39 Seminary Hill Road, Carmel.
Candidates for local and state offices are scheduled to attend, with presentations and a question-and-answer session on the Second Amendment, public and personal safety, pistol permits, hunting, target practice and sport shooting.
The event is open to association members and their guests. Seating is limited. Reservations can be made through pcfoa.org.
A free Senior Resource Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Putnam County Golf Course, 187 Hill St., Mahopac. Seniors, caregivers and family members can learn about elder care, Medicare, assisted living, government services, Alzheimer’s and memory care and other resources.
Prescription medication drop-off will also be available. Residents should bring unused or expired medications in a resealable plastic bag.
First Presbyterian Church of Mahopac, 411 Route 6N at Secor Road, will hold its annual rummage sale Oct. 1-3.
An early-bird preview sale will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a $5 admission fee. The sale continues from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Saturday is $8 Bag Day.
Wicked Whips New York will host a free community car show at 4:30 p.m. in the Ocean State Job Lot parking lot at Lake Plaza Shopping Center. All cars are welcome, and there is no entry fee.

The Greater Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual street festival from noon to 5 p.m. along Route 6N and South Lake Boulevard. The event will feature food, vendors, entertainment and activities for families.
The 2026 Putnam County Columbus Parade will step off at 2:30 p.m. at Route 6 and Lake Casse Road. The parade will proceed along Route 6 to Chamber Park, where the street festival will be underway.
The Sons of the American Legion will hold its monthly breakfast on Sunday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon at Mahopac American Legion Post 1080, 333 Buckshollow Road. Enjoy Belgian waffles and other breakfast favorites for a $12 donation, plus a 50/50 raffle. All are welcome—bring family and friends! For information, call 845-621-2639.
