Shred Event Rescheduled

The Town of Carmel will hold its rescheduled residential shred day Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon at 179 East Lake Boulevard, at the corner of Croton Falls Road.

The event is open to Town of Carmel residents only, with proof of residency required. Each vehicle may bring up to three file boxes of paper. Staples, paper clips and file folders with metal strips may be left in place.

Plastics, CDs, DVDs, X-rays, hard drives, three-ring binders and binder clips will not be accepted.

Mahopac Street Festival 

The Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Mahopac Street Festival on Sunday, Oct. 4, from noon to 5 p.m. in downtown Mahopac. 

The popular fall event will take place along Route 6N and South Lake Boulevard and will feature vendors, food, and family activities. The festival coincides with the Putnam County Columbus Day Parade, which steps off at 2:30 p.m. and proceeds toward Chamber Park. 

The street festival is free and open to the public.

Columbus Day Parade 

The Italian American Club of Mahopac will present the annual Putnam County Columbus Day Parade on Sunday, Oct. 4, stepping off at 2:30 p.m. in Mahopac. 

The parade will feature public officials, military groups, fire departments, community organizations, Boy and Girl Scouts, dance and karate schools, and antique and classic cars. 

Former Mahopac School Superintendent Frank Miele will serve as grand marshal. Honorary grand marshals are Urania Cedrola, Carmine Cedrola and Putnam County Legislator Jake D’Angelo. Paul Camarda will serve as special honoree. Madeleine Zeolla is Miss Columbus, AnnaMaria Amato is Little Miss Columbus and Jake Lauro is Master Columbus. 

The parade traditionally begins near Lake Casse Road and Route 6 and proceeds through Mahopac toward Chamber Park, where the Mahopac Street Festival will be underway.

Fall Into SEPTO

Mahopac SEPTO will host its Fall into SEPTO community event Sunday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sycamore Park Pavilion in Carmel. The event will feature local businesses, organizations and crafters and is designed to bring local vendors together with area families. A rain date is scheduled for Oct. 18. Local businesses, organizations and crafters interested in participating as vendors are encouraged to apply; space is limited.

Rotary Charity Golf Outing 

The Rotary Club of Lake Mahopac will hold its inaugural Charity Golf Outing on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Putnam County Golf Course, 187 Hill St., Mahopac. The event was rescheduled due to heavy rain. 

A continental breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start. A barbecue, awards and prizes will follow the golf.

Garden Club Meeting

The Lake Mahopac Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 11:30 a.m.   This luncheon and business meeting will be held at Airport Park in Mahopac and is open to members only due to the $25 materials fee.  The program presented will be "Design and Workshop." Thomas Madden, owner of Hudson Valley Flower Moments, will lead members in constructing a table design.   Members are encouraged to bring their lunch. 

International Heritage Mass 

St. John the Evangelist Church will hold an International Heritage Mass Celebration on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 11:30 a.m. in conjunction with Columbus Day weekend and the nation’s 250th anniversary. 

The celebration will highlight the nation’s multicultural heritage through music, readings, and traditional costumes representing different ethnic communities. A food tasting featuring a variety of cultural cuisines will follow the Mass in the St. John’s School gym.

Columbus Day Celebration 

The Italian American Club of Mahopac will sponsor a Putnam County Columbus Day Celebration on Monday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. at Carmel Town Hall on McAlpin Avenue in Mahopac. 

The annual observance will commemorate Columbus Day and celebrate Italian American heritage.

Putnam Arts Council Call for Entries 

The Putnam Arts Council is seeking artists for its annual Juried Fine Art Show, opening Saturday, Oct. 24, at the A. Eric Arctander Gallery, 521 Kennicut Hill Road, Mahopac. 

Artists 18 and older may submit up to two original works completed within the past three years and not previously exhibited at PAC. All media are accepted. Artwork must be delivered to the gallery by Saturday, Oct. 17, or Sunday, Oct. 18, from 2 to 5 p.m. Entry fees are $25 for PAC members and $30 for non-members. 

Cash prizes of $150 for Best in Show, $100 for second place and $75 for third place will be awarded. Andrew Lattimore will serve as juror.
