YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. — Yorktown police arrested a 16-year-old from Flushing in connection with a series of thefts in town, including the use of a stolen credit card to make unauthorized charges totaling thousands of dollars.

The arrest was made Friday, April 18, after police responded to two separate reports of property stolen from customers at Trader Joe’s on Crompond Road. One of the stolen items, police said, was a cellphone.

Officers tracked the stolen phone to a moving vehicle traveling southbound on the Taconic State Parkway. The teen was eventually located in Mount Pleasant.

Police allege that the teen was found with items stolen from one of the victims, as well as additional property taken from a second individual, including a stolen credit card. The teen used the card to make $2,338 in unauthorized purchases, police said.

The teenager, whose name was not released due to his juvenile status, is being charged as an adolescent offender. If charged as an adult, the charges would include fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, both class E felonies, in addition to fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class A misdemeanor.

He was issued an appearance ticket and released to a responsible adult. The teen is scheduled to appear Thursday in the youth part of the Westchester County Courthouse
