Summer Theatre of New Canaan Gears Up for its 16th Season with Support of College Interns Throughout Fairfield and Westchester Counties
New Canaan, Conn., June 2019—The Summer Theatre of New Canaan, recognized by theatre critics as one of Connecticut’s premier summer theatres, is in full preparation for its 16thseason. As part of its summer program, The Summer Theatre offers professional internships for career-track theatre arts college students and recent graduates practical theatre experience. This summer, 22 interns studying at colleges across the country were selected from over 300 applicants. They will be working side-by-side with professionals in all theatrical specialties, spanning acting, directing, education, stage management, costume design, lighting, sound, carpentry, technical direction and theatrical administration.
Somers’ Daniel Kushner who attends Brown University has joined the Summer Theatre as an acting intern. Matt, pictured here with Artistic Director Melody Libonati, is taking on numerous roles including playing The Suitor of Diamonds in THE LIGHT PRINCESS and understudying the lead role of Pippin in the main-stage musical PIPPIN.
This summer season, the Summer Theatre of New Canaan will present Broadway’s iconic Tony Award-winning PIPPIN with music and lyrics by Ridgefield’s Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Hunchback of NotreDame), beginning July 5th. The show features a professional cast of Broadway and regional actors. Two Theatre for a Young Audience shows will be also produced including the NY Times Critics’ Pick for family shows, THE LIGHT PRINCESSbeginning June 22, and a world premiere of the Bros Do Prose TREASURE ISLANDon July 13th.
