St. John’s dedicates cross made with Towers steel

Posted

Worshipers, first responders and community members gathered at the St. John the Evangelist Prayer Garden on Sept. 18 to dedicate the parish's new 9/11 cross, which incorporates steel recovered from the Twin Towers after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

In a Facebook post following the ceremony, the parish thanked first responders for their service and for taking part in the dedication.

"We are so grateful to the fire, police, sheriff, and EMS departments for helping make this ceremony so special," the post said. "It was a beautiful night in the Prayer Garden for the dedication of our new 9/11 Cross."

The post also thanked parishioners and expressed special appreciation for "the beautiful music that made the evening even more meaningful."

"It was truly a memorable and heartfelt night."

The parish called the cross a treasured addition to the Prayer Garden and said it "will serve as a powerful reminder of the lives lost, the heroes who responded, and the strength and compassion that emerged in the days that followed."

"May it provide a peaceful place for our parish community to reflect, pray, and remember all those whose lives were forever changed on September 11, 2001."
