SOMERS, N.Y. - Somers wrestlers had a busy start to 2025! In addition to squaring off with Lakeland/Panas this past week, the squad was also put to the test in a pair of tournaments this past weekend. The action on the mat also saw junior captain Ryan Ball achieve a pair of incredible milestones!

Tuskers fall to Lakeland/Panas

The Tuskers lost to visiting Lakeland/Panas 39-28 on Tuesday, Jan. 7. The squad was leading the Rebels until three consecutive forfeits gave the visitors the victory.

Recording wins for Somers were Loghan Dwyer (108, pin), Ethan Steuber (124, 5-3), Ryan Ball (131, 16-1 tech fall), Cal Ehrmann (138, pin), Derek Kuchinsky (145, 15-4), and T.J. Mauro (170, 13-3).

Eastern States Classic

On Jan. 10 and 11, the Tuskers headed to Clifton Park for the Eastern States Classic, finishing 58th out of 159 teams. Ryan Ball went 5-2 and placed 7th, while T.J. Mauro went 2-2 and Loghan Dwyer and Cal Ehrmann both went 1-2 on the day.

Hen Hud Sailor Classic

The Tuskers finished 8th out of 27 teams, with Ethan Steuber and Derek Kuchinsky both earning their first varsity tournament championships.

Other standout performances included freshman Robbie DeCamp (6th place, 101) and senior Duke Rexhepi (7th place, 160).

Ball Hits Milestones

Junior captain Ryan Ball recently hit two milestones for Somers Wrestling. On Jan. 3 at the Croton Multi Meet, Ball won his 130th career match over Pearl River’s Shane Quinn. The victory placed Ball alone in 6th place on the all-time wins list. At the Eastern States Classic in Clifton Park, Ball earned his 135th career win against Matt McDermott who ranked #6 at 131lbs in New York State by New York Wrestling News. This win pushed Ryan past Dave Welker who achieved 134 wins for Somers Wrestling in 1982, placing him 5th on the all-time wins list.

The Tuskers will now prepare for the Eric D’Aganese Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 18.
