SOMERS, N.Y. - A Somers man was arrested Friday after police said he obtained thousands of dollars from two people under false pretenses and later burglarized the Somers National Golf Club, stealing cash, checks and golf equipment.

David Chung, 37, was charged with second-degree burglary, a Class C felony; second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony; and third-degree grand larceny, a Class D felony, according to the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The investigation began after authories learned that on July 25, Chung allegedly obtained a combined $4,800 from two individuals by claiming the money was needed to repair damage they had caused at Somers National Golf Club, 1000 West Hill Drive, before an event scheduled for the following day.

On July 26, troopers responded to the golf club for a reported larceny after approximately $12,000 in business proceeds was discovered missing. Investigators identified Chung, who was employed as a restaurant manager at the club, as a suspect.

Four days later, while the investigation was ongoing, police returned to the golf club following a report of a burglary. Investigators determined that Chung allegedly forced his way into the clubhouse during the early morning hours and stole more than $2,600 in cash and checks, along with multiple golf bags containing clubs and other equipment valued at approximately $9,500.

Chung was arrested Aug. 7 and arraigned. Bail was set at $15,000 cash, a $30,000 bond or a $60,000 partially secured bond.

He is scheduled to appear again in Somers Town Court at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10.
