Somers Mother’s Day Run brings community together for 7th year

SOMERS, N.Y. - Mother’s Day, May 10, was a beautiful morning in the Deans Bridge neighborhood. Surrounded by neighbors and friends at the 7th Annual Lee Road Mother’s Day Run, 30 participants hit the road for a memorable community event.

Opening remarks were made by organizer Audrey Gherardi, who reminded everyone of the importance of taking time for themselves and that being a mom today is not a solo endeavor. It truly takes a community to raise children, and the neighborhood is grateful for the love and support this town provides.

The course was marked in the rain on Saturday evening by co-organizer Gianna Morrissey and her crew of kids. The race kicked off promptly at 9:30 a.m. It’s a beautiful course with some challenging hills, but it reminds us that we can do hard things—especially together.

A huge thank-you goes out to the local businesses that donated to the event, including Sweet Delights, JV Bagels, Bobo’s, Frannie’s, Fancy Nails, and flowers provided by Heather McGuire.

Congratulations to our top three finishers: Krystyn Carbonaro, Grace Wintje, and Kate McKrink.

Additional award winners included: Modified Course Winners (Giovanna Arena and Frankie Morrissey), Mother-Daughter Duo (Noreen and Libby Hochman), Newcomer Award (Rosa Arena), and Consistent Finisher Award (Antonietta Monteleone, who walks the course all year long).

We look forward to continuing this wonderful tradition year after year. The course will remain marked for a few more weeks for those interested in checking it out—you’ll find the start line on Lee Road.

Can’t wait until next year!
