Neighbors helping neighbors: Somers Lions 'Night at the Races' returns Jan. 17

SOMERS, N.Y. - If you’re looking for a night out that mixes high-energy fun with genuine community impact, circle Jan. 17 on your calendar because the Somers Lions Club is bringing back “A Night at the Races” by overwhelming popular demand.

And judging by last year’s turnout, tickets won’t be around for long.

Hosted at Villa Barone Hilltop Manor at 6:30 p.m., the evening features virtual horse racing, betting-style excitement (strictly for fun), buffet dinner, dancing, open bar, and the kind of laughter-filled atmosphere that reminds everyone why Somers is special. It’s a chance to shake off winter, get dressed up, and enjoy a night that isn’t just entertainment, it’s service in motion.

At its heart, this event is built around one idea: neighbors helping neighbors.

Proceeds support a roster of organizations that touch every corner of the community, children in crisis, veterans, vision services, service dogs, Make-A-Wish, Friends of Karen, regional hospitals, youth programs, the Community Center of Northern Westchester, and the Lions’ own Adopt-A-Family initiative and hands-on projects.

The people who benefit aren’t anonymous, they’re local families, local kids, and local needs. That’s why the Lions say this isn’t just a fundraiser, it’s a tradition of compassion.

And if the last event was any indication, demand will be high. Tables sold out quickly, and excitement is already building again. At $150 per person, including dinner, dancing, and open bar, it’s a night out with a purpose, at a value that’s hard to match.

Anyone who has attended before knows: once the races start, the cheering doesn’t stop.

There’s friendly competition, a little strategizing, plenty of bragging rights, and yes, some very lucky winners. But the biggest winners are the people in our community who rely on support.

If you love a good party, believe in giving back, or simply refuse to spend another winter Saturday on the couch, this event is a must-go. The word is already spreading across town, so grab tickets before they’re gone. Hey, maybe even get some for a special someone as a last minute gift!

Somers is ready. The horses are ready. Now all that’s missing is you.
