SOMERS, N.Y. - Somers first responders were on the move during another busy on Tuesday, May 27.
Members of the Somers Volunteer Fire Department responded to 15 different calls, including a garbage truck in flames and an accident on the trails behind Lincoln Hall.
The day started early, when the SVFD was called to Route 100 just before 5 a.m. after getting reports of a motor vehicle fire. Units arrived on scene to find a garbage truck ablaze. The operator was able to unload most of the truck’s contents before firefighters arrived, and it was determined that the flames originated from the body of the vehicle. The SVFD was able to extinguish the fire and operated at the scene for two hours.
Later in the day, firefighters and EMS units raced to the trails behind Lincoln Hall in response to a dirt bike accident just before 7 p.m. Units used the department’s UTV to get to the victim, who was found more than a mile into the woods. The SVFD was assisted by the Somers Police Department and New York State Police.
