Somers firefighters contain blaze at Chase Complex

SOMERS, N.Y. — The Somers Volunteer Fire Department quickly brought a structure fire under control Saturday night, Jan. 24, at the Somers Chase Complex, preventing the blaze from spreading throughout the home.

Firefighters were dispatched at 9:02 p.m. to a report of a house fire. First-arriving units found smoke showing from the structure and immediately stretched a handline into operation. A second-due engine secured a water supply from a nearby hydrant as crews began interior operations.

As conditions developed, a 10-75 Working Structure Fire was transmitted, prompting the response of several mutual aid companies. During their search, Somers firefighters opened a wall near the home’s fireplace and discovered an active fire burning within the wall cavity. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the hidden fire, successfully stopping further extension.

Assisting on scene were Westchester County Department of Emergency Services Battalion 13, along with fire departments from Croton Falls, Bedford Hills, Goldens Bridge, Katonah, and Yorktown’s FAST Team. Peekskill EMS Rehab and Westchester EMS 45 and Medic 2 also provided support. Mahopac Fire Department and Mahopac Falls Fire Department stood by at Somers headquarters to cover additional calls within the district during the incident.

All Somers units operated on scene for approximately two hours and 20 minutes. The scene was later turned over to the town Building Department for follow-up. No injuries were reported.
