SOMERS, N.Y. - Last year, Somers field hockey finished 6-10-2 in Shannon Scavelli’s first season as head coach, advancing to the first round of sectionals against John Jay.
“We did ok,” she said of the loss.
For 2025, the focus is on continued growth.
“Our hope is to keep growing, have fun and win the games that we should win,” Scavelli said.
Leading the midfield is senior captain Jessica Bowden, joined by junior Caitlyn Mayfield.
“Caitlyn and Jessica are players that can really keep up the whole game,” Scavelli noted.
Up front, Emma Donaldson and Ella Jacobs highlight a versatile attack. “We have a lot of people who can play multiple positions,” said Scavelli.
On defense, Vivian Davila provides stability. “She’s going to hold it down,” the coach said. “She played every game last year.”
The Tuskers are also strong in goal, with senior Mary Jarrett and junior Amy Kovacs ready to step in. “We got two great goalies that are ready to play,” Scavelli said.
For Scavelli, success will hinge on more than talent. “They’re all good friends off the field and that makes a huge difference,” she concluded.
