SOMERS, N.Y. - The Somers Education Foundation (SEF) has reached an unprecedented milestone, awarding more than $2,000,000 in grants and scholarships since its founding in 1994.
The grant that helped push SEF over the $2 million mark will fund the construction of a brand-new playground for Universal Pre-K students at Primrose Elementary School.
The project marks the SEF’s latest investment in enriching the educational experiences for Somers students. Over just the past year, the organization has awarded more than $150,000 in grants and scholarships, supporting initiatives across the district.
Recent projects include new collaboration furniture for Somers Intermediate School, advanced science equipment for Somers High School, and updated music equipment for Somers Middle School, among many others.
These accomplishments are made possible by the support of the Somers community through donations and participation in SEF events. The Foundation’s next fundraiser, Trivia Night, will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at The Burger Barn, located at 289 Rte. 100 in Somers. Space is limited to 75 participants, and the evening will feature a lively competition as well as a silent auction of unique items.
Community members can also directly support the new playground through the organization’s personalized brick fundraiser. For a $100 contribution, donors can purchase a brick that will be installed at the playground site with engraved messages ranging from family dedications to tributes to favorite teachers. Anyone interested in buying a brick to support the project can scan the QR code accompanying this article.
Somers Education Foundation President Rosalind Gallino recently shared her enthusiasm for the project.
“I’m extremely excited to be part of an organization that works with the district and the community to foster all forms of education from our smallest to our tallest learners,” Gallino said. “It is our hope that this playground will be a scene of laughter, joy, learning and community building for many years to come.”
With the new playground on the horizon and a strong tradition of community engagement, the SEF continues to shape the educational landscape in Somers—one grant, one event, and one milestone at a time.
