SOMERS, N.Y. - On Sunday, June 7, the 10th Annual Charity Car Show was held in the parking lot of Somers Intermediate School. Held in honor of Korean War veteran Louis DeMarco, who passed away in 2012, the event raises funds to support veterans in need.
“He would be beyond thrilled,” said his granddaughter, Kayla DeMarco.
This year's proceeds will help two area veterans facing financial hardship. Through raffle ticket sales and donations, organizers raised $10,350, which will be split between Benny Pirone and Jimmy Rea.
Rea, 76, served as an Army combat engineer specialist in Germany from 1968 to 1970. Pirone, 93, served as a sergeant in the Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954.
