SOMERS, N.Y. - The folks who use the Somers Library will be more comfortable, educated, and entertained thanks to a state grant.

The $20,000 in “bullet aid” funding was secured by Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) and announced on Monday, June 30.

It will be used to purchase new chairs, and maybe tables, and to enhance programming for patrons.

Thanking Slater, Library Director Jessica Veissy noted that “continued investment in public libraries like ours allows us to better serve our community as a welcoming, resource-rich environment for learning, engagement, and growth.”

“I’m proud to help deliver this bullet aid funding for initiatives that are well warranted and will serve the community in a variety of important ways,” said Slater, adding: “Keeping our public services up to date means more people can benefit from them, and when it comes to school safety, there should be no compromises.”

He also announced that $20,000 had been awarded to the Mahopac Central School District, which intends to use the money on safety and security projects, and to the Reed Memorial Library in Carmel to improve its programming preparation space.

Assemblyman Matt Slater represents the 94th Assembly District, which includes parts of Putnam and Westchester counties, including the towns of Kent, Patterson, Putnam Valley, Carmel, Southeast, Somers and Yorktown, as well as the village of Brewster.
