Shoplifting arrest, hit-and-run probe top Mount Kisco police blotter

Mount Kisco police responded to a range of incidents from Aug. 23–27, including a shoplifting arrest, a hit-and-run investigation and a reported sexual assault, while also handling domestic disputes, welfare checks and mental health crises and helping reunite a commuter with a lost Apple Watch.

Aug. 23

Welfare check requested at 4:55 a.m. for a man observed sleeping on the sidewalk on Main Street near North Moger Avenue. The man was determined to be intoxicated and EMS was requested to respond to assess him.

An officer on patrol at 1:45 p.m. observed a man drinking an alcoholic beverage at Byram Lake Road and Main Street. The man was issued a summons for Public Consumption of an Alcoholic Beverage, a violation. He is due in village court on Sept. 24.

A woman called police at 6:02 p.m. to report that her ex-boyfriend was following her on South Moger Avenue. The man was not present upon an officer’s arrival. The woman requested a report be prepared because she is pursuing an order of protection in Family Court.

Officers responded to Carpenter Avenue at 8:50 p.m. on a report of a domestic dispute between a man and woman. A Domestic Incident Report was prepared and Lethality Screening conducted. The NYPD was notified and a supervisor responded because one of the parties involved is a police officer.

Aug. 24

Officers responded to Meadowbrook Lane at 1:03 a.m. after a resident reported there was a suspicious vehicle with its headlights on in the driveway of her home. When officers arrived, they were advised by the resident that the vehicle was hers and that she had apparently left the headlights on by mistake. 

An officer was dispatched back to the Green Street precinct at 9:35 p.m. to meet a man at the callbox. The man reported that he had left an Apple watch on board a Metro-North train in White Plains and subsequently tracked the device to a location on Stewart Place. An officer spoke with a man in an apartment on Stewart Place who admitted to finding the watch. The officer took possession of the watch and turned it over to its owner.

Officers responded to Parkview Place at 10:54 a.m. after a woman called to say that a male relative was refusing to return her car keys. The man told officers that he had advised the woman the day before that he had placed her keys in a bowl on the kitchen counter. He showed the officers that the keys were in the bowl.

An officer was dispatched back to the Green Street precinct at 12:54 p.m. to meet a woman at the callbox. She turned over paperwork for a court-issued Temporary Order of Protection to be served to a man who was a patient at Northern Westchester Hospital. Service was completed later in the day.

A New Castle resident who works in New York City called police at 1:38 p.m. to report that his teen-aged daughter was in crisis and had gone to the Mount Kisco train station with the family dog and with the intention of running away from home. Officers located the teen on the platform as her mother arrived there and remained with them until MTA Police responded to handle the matter further.

Aug. 25

A business at North Moger Avenue and Main Street reported at 11:26 a.m. that someone broke its front window.

Officers responded to a business in the 200 block of Main Street at 3:03 p.m. on a complaint regarding a disorderly customer. Condition corrected.

Multiple officers responded to Main Street and Lenox Place at 8:04 p.m. after a man who was possibly intoxicated was involved in a property damage motor vehicle accident and ran off into a wooded area. Officers searched the area, including using a tracking canine, but were unable to locate him. The man’s vehicle, which has Connecticut plates, was impounded. Investigation continuing.

Aug. 26

Welfare check requested at 2:15 p.m. for a man sitting behind St. Francis of Assisi Church on Green Street.  The man told an officer he was fine and did not require any medical attention. He was directed to leave the property and did so.

Officers responded to the train station at 4:34 p.m. on a report that a man on the platform was preparing to jump on to the tracks. The caller stated that bystanders intervened and prevented the man from doing so. The man was gone upon officers’ arrival. MTA PD also responded and the matter was turned over to that agency.

Complaint received at 9:49 p.m. of youths driving erratically in a parking lot in the 300 block of North Bedford Road. A responding officer observed eight to 10 cars occupied cars sitting in the lot with a group of people gathered and talking. The parties were directed to leave the property and dispersed as directed.

Aug. 27

An officer responded to the 200 block of Main Street at 7:09 a.m. on a report of a man behaving erratically. Condition corrected.

Officers responded to ShopRite on North Bedford Road at 7:57 a.m. on a report of a larceny that just occurred. Store employees said a man left the store after filling several bags with merchandise. Officers canvassed the area, located the suspect and took him into custody. He was found in possession of $234 worth of merchandise that he had not paid for, including beer, meat, chips, and frozen pizza. The 43-year-old Los Angeles, Calif., man was booked at the Green Street precinct on a charge of Petit Larceny, a misdemeanor. He is due in village court on Sept. 10.

Officers responded back to the Green Street precinct at 7:23 p.m. on a report of a man in crisis. The man, who is known to officers due to prior interactions, was observed on camera talking to himself and brandishing a small knife.  Officers de-escalated the situation, took possession of the knife and requested EMS to respond. Mount Kisco VAC took the man to Northern Westchester Hospital for evaluation. An officer rode aboard the ambulance to ensure the crew’s safety.

An officer was dispatched back to the Green Street precinct at 9:12 p.m. to meet a woman at the callbox who wanted to file a criminal complaint. Due to a language barrier, a Spanish-speaking sergeant was requested to return to the precinct as well to assist with translation. The woman told the officers that a man she had met recently sent her text messages that included video of him fondling her while she was intoxicated and passed out. The victim said she did not consent to the sexual contact and wanted to press charges. A report was prepared and the matter turned over to detectives for continued investigation.
