Scott J. Porter of Selinsgrove, PA, previously of Putnam Lake, NY, passed away Tuesday May 5, 2026, in Mt. Kisco, NY at the age of 74 after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.
Scott was born November 15, 1951, in Cornwall, NY, son of the late Jack and Ruth (Mann) Porter. After graduating from Valley Forge Military Academy, he continued his education at Westchester Community College and Western Connecticut State University. On October 14, 1972, Scott married Janice White in White Plains, NY. Scott worked as an accountant for Union Carbide in Danbury, CT then for Western Connecticut State University. Scott was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Danbury, CT. He was a sports enthusiast and knew a variety of stats for his favorite teams; Jets, Mets, and Rangers. He played baseball throughout his youth and as an adult, was a member of various softball leagues; he enjoyed building what became life-long friendships through those organizations. He had an impressive vinyl collection with a wide array of styles, 60's rock to smooth jazz. Scott had a great sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. In his final moments, when asked if he had any advice to share, he recited the golden rule: treat others the way you want to be treated.
In addition to his wife Janice, Scott is survived by his sons Jonathan Porter of San Diego, CA and Eric Porter and his wife Jennifer (Gilligan) of Harpursville, NY; daughter Lindsey Eischeid and her husband Nicholas of Selinsgrove, PA; a sister Carole Bakalar and husband Tom of Bradenton, FL, a brother Steven Porter of Harrison, NY; sister-in-law Jill White, brother in-law Jeffrey White, multiple nieces and nephews, and two grandchildren Fletcher and Preston Eischeid.
