After standout cross country and indoor seasons Mahopac track and field athletes continued their strong 2025-26 form this spring, with multiple school records falling.

The girls finished second in the league as a team, with Cara O’Halloran breaking several individual school records along the way, including the 400- and 800-meter runs (twice).

The girls also broke school records in multiple relays: O’Halloran, Kira Waring, Olivia Spinella and Gianna Hartmann combined to set a new Mahopac mark in the 4x1600-meter relay, while O’Halloran, Luciana Abney, Hartmann and Waring combined to set a new Mahopac mark in the medley relay.

O’Halloran, Waring, Hartmann and Spinella won league titles in the 4x800- and 4x400-meter relays.

Ella Biolchini topped the league in the 100- and 400-meter hurdles, while O’Halloran (800 meters) and Hartmann (1,500 meters) also won individual league titles.

“The girls’ momentum over the last few years has led to this breakthrough,” coach Kelley Posch said. “We are so excited to see all their hard work coming to fruition. They’re putting themselves in the hunt in these bigger meets and putting Mahopac on the map.”

The boys team finished third in the league and saw the quartet of Keith Attobrah, Elijah McKenzie, Noah Hewitt and Joseph Pellegrino break the school record in the 4x100 relay.

Alex Zamrzla (100- and 400-meter hurdles, high jump), Mozel Holmes (triple jump), Pellegrino (200 meters) and Attobrah (100 meters) won individual league titles.

Posch said strong individual performances have helped the team drive forward.

“Cara O’Halloran has made a big jump this year and is proving she belongs on the list of top Section 1 runners,” Posch said. “Her performances this past week at the prestigious Glenn D. Loucks Games — one of the premier track and field meets in the Northeast — were a new tier of elite and it bodes well for the upcoming championship season.”

Posch said O’Halloran was not alone in “reaching new heights.”

“Kira, Olivia and Gianna [who will compete at Long Island University next year] have been consistently setting personal records in the distance races and they’re showing a new level of confidence later in the race that is so exciting!” the coach said. “Ella Biolchini is dominating the hurdles and continues to improve each week. Her form is getting stronger and her confidence coming over the hurdles is really solidified now.”

Meanwhile, the boys team continues to develop and has delivered Mahopac’s best results in years.

“The boys team is seeing successes in the sprints that we haven’t seen in quite some time,” Posch said. “Keith is new to the sport but finding strength in the 100 meters. Joseph was a consistent contender in the sprints last year and continues this year to dominate the 200 meters and he’s opened his horizon to the 400 meters too. Joseph will compete at the University of New Haven next year.”

Posch added that like Biolchini on the girls side, Zamrzla “owns the hurdles.”

“He won both league titles, as did Ella,” the coach said. “And Alex is doing well with the high jump, making him a potential candidate for the pentathlon.”

The boys are also starting to become a force in the relay events.

“The boys 4x100-meter relay team is really clicking,” Posch said. “They have worked so hard in practice to hone their handoff skills and it’s paid off with a school record so far. I’m excited to see what they do in the championship season!”

Mahopac is due to compete in the Northern Counties Championships this weekend (May 16-17), followed by the Class A Championships later this month.
