NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - After six months of closure for mold remediation and restoration work, the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library in North Salem will reopen to the public on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
The library announced this week that patrons will once again be able to visit the building to browse and borrow books, pick up holds, access public computers and printers, receive technology assistance, and take care of account services.
During the first few weeks after reopening, staff members will focus on restoring full patron services and getting the library back up and running.
"We know it has been a long wait," the library said in its announcement. "We have missed seeing you inside the library and are ready to welcome you back."
The library, located at 276 Titicus Road, closed earlier this year after mold was discovered in the building, prompting an extensive remediation project.
Throughout the closure, library officials kept the community updated on the progress of the work, which included environmental testing and assessment, securing unaffected portions of the building, remediation planning and cleanup, coordinating with contractors and insurance companies, obtaining necessary approvals, and preparing the facility for a safe reopening.
"Our priority is to protect the building, complete this work responsibly, and reopen safely for the community," the library said in a February update.
Although the building was closed, the library continued to offer virtual programs and digital resources, including ebooks, audiobooks, databases, and streaming services. Patrons were also able to pick up holds and return materials through other members of the Westchester County Library System.
