Rollover crash knocks down utility pole on Granite Springs Road

Posted

A car rolled over Saturday evening on Granite Springs Road near Curry Street, bringing down a utility pole, just ahead of the winter storm that hit the area Sunday.

A neighbor told Yorktown News that residents in the area called 911 after hearing the crash and rushed to help the driver. The Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department, along with other local emergency crews, quickly arrived and helped the driver out of the vehicle. The person was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment, but their condition and the extent of any injuries are not known.

Town officials are in contact with Verizon regarding the downed pole. Any impact on cell service is not expected to be related to the crash, though delays in crews could affect the repair timeline. If Verizon service is out, some residents would not have home internet.

The road is is closed between Curry Street and Quaker Church Road. Residents who live in the area can drive down Quaker Church Road, but cannot pass the bridge near Crystal Lake.

Yorktown Police took over the scene for vehicle removal, and NYSEG is expected to complete the repairs.

The crash occurred near the site of a proposed cell tower, which residents have been opposing and rallying against in recent weeks.
