Robert H. Vijacki mostly known as “Bob” but definitely referred to by all Old Time Yorktown Cornhuskers as “CHICO” passed away in his home on Sept. 27, 2026 at the age of 89.

Bob was born in 1937, in Yonkers, NY, to his father Henry Vijacki and his mother Helen Anderson-Vijacki. In 1947, he moved to Yorktown with his mother Helen and his step- father John Viegel. He always spoke of his fond memories of early Yorktown which was a farming community where everyone knew each other.

He graduated from Yorktown High School in 1954 where he made a name for himself as an athlete and met his future wife, Diane.

After graduating he joined the United States Army serving four years state side and in Germany. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned to Yorktown and started his own business as a carpenter/builder.

In 1966, he married his wife Diane DaRin and began building their new home to start a family.

After many years in the building business, he accepted an offer to work in Building Operations for the Yorktown Central School District. His position required going to all the district buildings and he really enjoyed the relationships with everyone in the district.

In 2009, at the age of 72, his family finally convinced him to retire and go play some more golf while he could still hammer the ball.

For many of his younger years he was an active member of the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department. He always enjoyed the comradery with his longtime friends working the pizza booth at the carnival, playing on the YHFD softball and basketball teams, and was a search diver when needed.

He also enjoyed being a member of the Yorktown Elks Lodge and Yorktown Veterans of Foreign Wars. Making a stop to see the guys was always part of everyday.

Robert was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Diane, and survived by his two sons Kevin and Darren who still reside in Yorktown.
