Road rage, car theft and suspicious behavior at park among recent police calls in the village

Westchester County Police report incidents in Mount Kisco ranging from assault to an injured hawk, road rage, suspicious activity at a youth baseball game, a car-pedestrian accident and more.

July 5

An officer advised at 8:05 a.m. that there was an injured hawk on Kisco Avenue. A wildlife rehabilitation specialist was contacted and responded to take possession of the injured hawk.

Officers responded to Kirby Plaza at 9:53 a.m. on a report of an assault that occurred a short time earlier. A man told officers that he had been punched several times by another man at a deli on Maple Avenue. The man said he had an ongoing dispute with his attacker over money but he refused to identify his assailant or cooperate further. EMS was requested to respond because the man was bleeding from his face and needed care and transport to the hospital.

An officer responded to a fast-food restaurant on North Bedford Road at 10:57 a.m. on a complaint regarding a woman who was sleeping in a booth and ignoring requests she leave the premises. Condition corrected.

An officer responded to Moore Avenue at 3:44 p.m. on a report of a dispute between neighbors. A resident reported that a large tree branch had fallen on to his property from a neighbor’s tree and the neighbor refused to pay for it to be removed. The man was advised the issue was a civil matter. He requested a report be prepared to document that he had reported the matter when it occurred.

July 6

An officer responded to Victoria Drive at 8:41 a.m. on a report of an unresponsive woman. A 94-year-old woman was found deceased at her residence. Westchester EMS and Mount Kisco VAC also responded and a paramedic pronounced the woman deceased of apparent natural causes.

Intoxicated man found behind a business on South Moger Avenue at 11:45 a.m. EMS requested to respond to evaluate him.

A 57-year-old South Salem resident was charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, at 2:41 p.m. on a complaint from staff at Target on North Bedford Road. The woman is accused of failing to scan nearly $300 worth of merchandise while using the self-checkout lanes before leaving the store with the items. She was booked at the Green Street precinct and released pending a July 23 appearance in Mount Kisco Justice Court.

July 7

A man came to the Green Street precinct at 7:48 a.m. to turn in a wallet he found near the Mount Kisco Library. Property vouchered for safekeeping.

Multiple officers responded to Barker Street and Carpenter Avenue at 10:23 a.m. after a pedestrian was stuck by a car while crossing the street. Mount Kisco FD, Mount Kisco VAC and Westchester EMS also responded. A woman in her 80s was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center. The driver, a Connecticut man in his 60s, remained at the scene and told officers he did not see the woman as he made a left turn from Carpenter Avenue to Barker Street. The County Police Accident Investigation Team was requested to respond from headquarters. Several streets in the area were closed while that investigation was conducted by the AI Team and detectives. County officers from outside the village were requested to respond to assist with those closures to keep Mount Kisco officers available to answer calls for service.

An officer was dispatched back to the Green Street precinct at 6:35 p.m. to meet a woman at the callbox. The woman reported that a taxi driver who brought her home the previous Friday took photos of her house after she got out of the cab. She asked for a report to be prepared to document her concern about his behavior.

July 9

The Real Time Crime center broadcast an alert at 10:08 a.m. that a stolen car was being driven on West Main Street and Manchester Drive. Officers canvassed but did not locate the vehicle. The vehicle was subsequently reported to be in the area of Grant Street and the Saw Mill River Parkway in Pleasantville. Mount Pleasant Police located it at a gas station in Thornwood and took the driver into custody.

A 25-year-old North Salem resident was arrested at 2:16 p.m. following a traffic stop on Sarles Avenue. He was found to be in possession of seven small, clear packages containing a total of 6.9 grams of cocaine. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th Degree, a felony; Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, a misdemeanor; and Driving Without a Seat Belt, a violation. He was arraigned in Mount Kisco Justice Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail. He is due back in court July 14.

July 12

Officers responded to Leonard Park at 12:13 p.m. on a report of heated verbal dispute involving several parents and a man who approached their children and was observed playing ball with them. The parents reported that the man refused to speak with them when confronted and that he had falsely claimed to a boy that he knew his dad. The youths, who were from a visiting team, told officers that the man did not touch them or attempt to lure them from the ball field. They did say he made them uncomfortable when he approached them because he was stranger. A Greenwich, Conn., man was detained for investigation until the boys and parents were interviewed. The man was also interviewed and consented to a follow-up interview with detectives the next day.

July 13

At 1:43 p.m., officers and members of the Mount Kisco Fire Department were notified to establish a landing zone in Leonard Park for a medical helicopter that was bringing a patient to Northern Westchester Hospital.

The Real Time Crime Center broadcast an alert at 5 p.m. that a vehicle wanted in connection with a road rage incident on the Saw Mill River Parkway earlier in the day was traveling on South Bedford Road. The driver of the suspect vehicle allegedly threw a rock at another motorist during the incident in Thornwood, striking her in the face. An officer located the vehicle on Route 117 as it entered New Castle and made a traffic stop. The driver, who denied throwing a rock at the other motorist, was issued a summons for an observed Vehicle & Traffic Law violation and permitted to leave. Detectives at headquarters are continuing the road rage investigation.

July 14

A caller reported at 12:27 a.m. that a man was “acting weird” in the vicinity of the Mount Kisco railroad station. An officer located the man on the platform but observed no unusual behavior. A train arrived and the man got on board.

Officers responded to Leonard Park at 1:23 p.m. to help establish a landing zone for a medical helicopter coming to pick up a patient from Northern Westchester Hospital.

July 17

A business on Kensico Drive reported at 7:45 a.m. that an apparent break-in attempt had occurred the previous day. Damage to two rear doors was found at 10 p.m. the night before but police were not notified until the morning. Investigation continuing.

An officer was dispatched to Leonard Park at 11:15 a.m. on a report that a vehicle involved in a suspicious incident earlier in the week was back in the park. A traffic stop was made and the driver said he had returned to look for a baseball bat he left behind. The 61-year-old Greenwich man was issued a formal trespass notice at the request of the village Recreation Department. The man was advised that he would be arrested for trespass if he returns to the park.

An officer on patrol on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers stopped a vehicle at 8:20 p.m. driven by a man with an outstanding arrest warrant issued by Mount Kisco Justice Court. The man was transported to village court where he was arraigned on a charge of Petit Larceny, a misdemeanor. He was released on his own recognizance at 9:30 p.m. He is due back in court on July 23.
