Resident cites 9/11 connection in support of O’Keefe

Dear Editor,

It is that time of year that leaves will be changing and mornings are getting colder.

It's also that time that we will be voting in midterm elections. As a resident of Somers for over 60 years, I have seen a lot of change, both good and bad.

Recently, this past year, I was involved in the fight to stop the lithium battery storage facility that was proposed off Miller Road and Route 118. I can not say enough about the Somers Town Board members that joined our fight and were a big part of stopping it and even went as far as changing the local zoning codes to prevent this from happening in the future.

One of the best things that came about this fight was how our neighborhood came together as one and became friends. During that time, Kevin O'Keefe made a big impression on me. Kevin was well spoken and had a lot of great ideas on what we should do and how to accomplish them. In talking with Kevin when we first met and over time, one of the topics we talked about was Sept. 11th. Kevin mentioned that just days after the towers came down, he went and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and did two tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

As a member of NYPD and first responder on 9/11, that meant a lot to me and told me a lot about this young man that he was willing to put his life on the line for this country and is willing to fight for it, and now he is running for Westchester County Legislator District 4.

Kevin is now married with a son and two young daughters and is employed by the NYC Ironworkers. I can not say enough about this young man and his accomplishments. I hope that you will support and vote for Kevin O'Keefe for County Legislator, District 4.

-Paul Harold, Somers Resident
