Dear Editor,
In response to Bob Scopelliti’s letter in the May 7 edition ("Reader disputes 'thousands' at 'No Kings' rally, calls coverage fake news," Page 23), we participated in the No Kings rally on March 28.
We have been at every Saturday protest since February 2025. First on Kisco Avenue and now on Main Street in front of the Mount Kisco Village Hall. We usually have about 100 participants in attendance that are trying to save our democracy. The No Kings rally was exceptional in that, by our own estimate and that of The Somers Record and another area publication, there were almost 2,000 people at the rally.
At our weekly protest, we usually line up along Main Street standing on the apron between the street and the sidewalk. We do not block the sidewalk. We do not heckle or intimidate anyone. As a matter fact, the majority of the drivers passing by are honking their horns and giving us the thumbs up in solidarity, not in annoyance. Because of the large crowd that was anticipated for No Kings Day, Village officials requested that we have the bulk of the attendees gather in Fountain Park and the area alongside Village Hall.
While Bob is annoyed that some of the protesters are not residents of Mount Kisco, many of us work and shop here on a regular basis. We are all patriots exercising our First Amendment rights, which are not geographically limited.
As to the excess traffic, a lot of it has to do with the closing of the Preston Way bridge, which has created an ongoing traffic jam in the center of town. The traffic flow was not helped by Bob slowly driving by eight times.
The claim that the 2024 presidential election was a landslide is patently false. While President Trump did win the electoral college vote, he did not win the popular vote. More people voted for someone else than voted for Trump.
Trump - 77,303,568 votes
All Others - 77,897,589 votes
Not even close to a landslide. Democracy dies when we are silent.
-Tony and Angela Giardina, Mount Kisco
Editor's note: Tony and Angela Giardina's comparison between President Trump's vote total and the combined votes for all other candidates is not how the term popular vote is generally used in American politics or election reporting. Popular-vote winners are identified by comparing the vote totals of individual candidates. Donald Trump received more votes than any other candidate in the 2024 election and won the national popular vote.

Thank you Tony and Angela, every word in your post is a perfect reflection of our mission. We have been part of the Saturday protests in Mt. Kisco with you weekly, for as long as you have been attending. I don't think we could keep our sanity without this joyful outlet with like-minded people. We gather in all kinds of weather from 100º to a wind chill factor of -16º, and nothing prevents us from turning up, generally 100 strong. All are welcome, and if you are new to this kind of event (as most of us were at some point), you will be appreciated and feel comfortable with us. Make your own sign or pick one from the available collection. We need you, our country needs you, and you need us! Saturdays 1:00 - 2:00 in front of the Mt. Kisco library.
