Putnam County law enforcement agencies will participate in the statewide STOP-DWI Holiday Season High Visibility Engagement Campaign, which runs from Dec. 10 through Jan. 1.
Putnam County Sheriff Brian Hess, Carmel Police Department Chief Anthony Hoffmann, Kent Police Department Chief Kevin Owens and Putnam County STOP-DWI Coordinator John Osterhout announced that local police agencies and STOP-DWI coordinators will take part in special enforcement and outreach efforts aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of impaired driving.
As residents celebrate the holiday season and look ahead to the new year, law enforcement agencies across New York state and STOP-DWI programs will increase visibility and enforcement to help prevent impaired driving, reduce injuries and save lives.
The Holiday Season High Visibility Engagement Campaign is one of several statewide initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. Similar campaigns are conducted around Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Super Bowl weekend and St. Patrick’s Day.
Officials said highly visible and widely publicized enforcement efforts are intended to further reduce incidents of drunk and impaired driving.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead by designating a sober driver or arranging a safe ride home.
