The Putnam County Fair and 4-H Showcase will return to Veterans Memorial Park in Carmel on Saturday, July 26, and Sunday, July 27, with live music, animal demonstrations, educational exhibits, children’s activities and the fourth annual Duck Derby.
Presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County, the fair will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the park, 201 Gipsy Trail Road.
Activities offered throughout the weekend will include youth and adult project displays, sewing and spinning demonstrations, livestock exhibits, pony rides and crafts, a live honeybee hive, composting and vermicomposting displays, the Bug-ZOO-ka insect exhibit and opportunities to speak with Master Gardener volunteers. Visitors can also learn about the Putnam Pollinator Pathway and energy-saving programs.
Saturday’s schedule will begin with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. and include a car show, K9 demonstrations by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police, magic shows, concerts and food-preservation, gardening and nutrition demonstrations. Jonathan Kruk will present storytelling programs, and Sybil Ludington will ride through the fairgrounds. Musical performers will include Basement by the Lake, Cross Purpose, Guardian Revival, Lakeside Harmony Chorus, With No Name on the Marquee and The Good Old Brothers.
Sunday’s activities will include miniature-horse showmanship and games, 4-H and State Police K9 demonstrations, an insect-mouthparts talk, magic shows, a horseless horse show, plant-propagation and canning demonstrations and performances by the 4-H Puppeteer Players.
Live music will be provided by Not Tuna, Dos Bills & Friends and Classic Rock Euphoria and many others.
The fourth annual Duck Derby will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday. Ducks may be adopted for $5 each, five for $20 or 25 for $75. The winner will receive cash and prizes valued at $350. Proceeds will support CCE-Putnam’s capital campaign for the Cornell Barn at Tilly Foster Farm.
