SOUTHEAST, N.Y. - A Purdys man was tragically killed after being hit by a falling tree limb on Monday, Nov. 17.
According to New York State Police, David Valdivia, 62, had been walking his dogs on the Putnam County Trailway on Route 6 in Southeast just after 1 p.m when he was struck in the head by the branch.
Valdivia was found near mile marker 53 and pronounced dead at the scene.
Folling the accident, a GoFundMe has been established to help cover funeral expenses with the following message:
"David was a beloved friend, and family member whose kindness touched everyone around him. His sudden passing has left his loved ones grieving across borders. We are raising funds to bring David home to Mexico so his family can honor him, lay him to rest with dignity, and say their final goodbyes. Any contribution, big or small, brings us closer to giving David the farewell he deserves. Thank you for your compassion and support during this difficult time."
The fundraising campaign has currently raised more than $10,000 towards its $15,000 goal.
