Some Yorktown farmland has helped Netflix cultivate an Emmy nomination, as “Zero Day,” which included scenes shot at Hilltop Hanover Farm, earned nods for cinematography and directing.
The six-episode miniseries, a political thriller starring legendary actor Robert De Niro, was filmed in Yorktown in May of last year, along with other Westchester locations. De Niro plays a former U.S. president who is called out of retirement to investigate a global cyberattack. The star-studded cast includes Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, Angela Bassett, Viola Davis and Matthew Modine.
The scene, from Episode 3, is an action sequence showing an armed tactical team raiding a burning farmhouse—with Yorktown standing in for Pocatello, Idaho.
Westchester has become a Hollywood hotspot in recent years, with many prestigious television shows and movies filming here. Productions filmed in the county earned a combined 61 nominations for the 77th Annual Emmy Awards.
County Executive Ken Jenkins called the nominations “a powerful validation of our role in the film and television industry” and added that numerous accolades “reflect the depth, versatility and production value our communities offer.”
He noted that with over $924 million in economic impact and a 51 percent rise in industry-related jobs last year, the county “has firmly established itself as one of the most production-ready destinations.”
In addition to “Zero Day,” Apple TV+’s “Severance,” which has filmed in locations including Pleasantville and White Plains, earned 27 nominations, and HBO Max’s “The Penguin,” shot in Sleepy Hollow and Yonkers, earned 24—the two highest of any series this year.
“We’re proud to see so many Emmy-nominated productions that chose Westchester as a filming location. Our communities offer character and versatility, helping to bring compelling stories to life,” Natasha Caputo, director of Westchester County Tourism and Film, said in a press release. “These nominations reflect the significant role Westchester plays in the television landscape.”
The 77th Annual Emmy Awards will be held on Sept. 14, 2025, streaming on CBS and Paramount+. A complete list of nominees is available at emmys.com.
