MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. - Alpaca APB in Mount Kisco!
Westchester County Police received a frantic 911 call around 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, about a “llama” on the loose.
Actually, it was an alpaca, the large South American camelid’s fleecier and more docile cousin, that was on the lam, according to WCPD spokesman Kieran O’Leary.
“It was still a pretty good description compared to some we get,” he said.
Responding Officers Nick Mirko and David Rodriguez spotted the critter loitering near the Land Rover dealership on the corner of Kisco Avenue and Pat Reilly Way.
“Maybe it was looking to upgrade its ride?” O’Leary joked.
The scene was just a short trot from Hotel MTK’s parking lot, where the mischievous mammal had eloped from its owner’s trailer.
It gave up without a fight. (Had cuffs needed to be deployed, two pairs would have had to be used.)
The runaway was safely transported to the WCPD’s Green Street station where it was reunited with its grateful owner.
“We’re taking a guess here, but we think somewhere there’s a kid's birthday party that went on just as planned,” O’Leary said.
