WESTCHESTER AND PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. - The New York State Police issued an alert to residents in Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess counties regarding a series of targeted residential burglaries that have occurred recently. Investigators are actively investigating these incidents and urging residents to take additional security precautions.

Over the past week, it was reported that three residential burglaries targeted the homes of Asian American residents. In two instances, significant amounts of jewelry and currency were stolen.

Authorities believe that burglaries are part of a targeted pattern.

In a statement released on Jan. 29, the New York State Police advised all residents of these counties, particularly those in the Asian American community, to enhance their security measures.

Recommendations include the following:

Ensure all doors and windows are securely locked, including second-floor entry points

Install or activate security systems and cameras

Keep exterior lights on during nighttime hours

Consider installing motion-sensor lighting

Be aware of suspicious vehicles or individuals in your neighborhood

Avoid discussing vacation plans or periods of absence on social media

Consider using timed interior lights when away from home

Secure valuables in a quality safe or safe deposit box

Report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 911

Document suspicious vehicles, including license plate numbers, when possible

Join or create neighborhood watch programs

Keep in close communication with neighbors

The New York State Police works closely with local law enforcement agencies to investigate these crimes. Police are encouraging anyone with information about these incidents to contact Troop K Headquarters at 845-677-7300.
