Police said there is “no ongoing threat to the public” as they investigate an alleged robbery involving a firearm in the parking lot of Jefferson Valley Mall.

The robbery occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. Friday as two adults were walking toward the mall, Yorktown Police Chief Justin Foley told Yorktown News. Both victims suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

“We received credible tips from the public as well as videos from commercial cameras in the area,” Foley said.

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic man of unknown age, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build and short black hair. He was wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and black mask and operating a black stand-up scooter. Police warned the public not to approach or attempt to contact him because he was believed to be armed.

Based on the investigation, the suspect is no longer believed to be within Yorktown’s jurisdiction, Foley said.

Anyone who was at Jefferson Valley Mall at approximately 3 p.m. or later Friday and saw the suspect—or has photographs or video that could assist the investigation—is asked to contact the Yorktown Police Department.

The Westchester County Police Department and its Aviation Unit, New York State Police, Carmel Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted with the investigation. Mohegan Fire, Mohegan Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Yorktown Paramedics also responded.

“Unfortunately, due to it being an ongoing investigation and chasing down a credible lead and evidence, I cannot share any additional information,” Foley said.

The Yorktown Police Department posted information about the investigation on its Facebook page.
