YORKTOWN, N.Y. — A 19-year-old Peekskill resident is facing misdemeanor charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of a motor vehicle accident that left a pedestrian injured.

Yorktown Police said it received multiple 911 calls on Feb. 13, just after 8 p.m., reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle operated by Joe William Coronel, who then left the scene. Officers responded to the location, near Kear St. in Yorktown Heights, and began providing aid to the injured woman, with assistance from local medics and the Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Following an investigation, police allege that Coronel hit the woman with his vehicle before fleeing the scene without stopping. She was transported to a nearby facility for further evaluation. Her current condition has not been released.

Police said through their investigation, officers were able to identify the suspect and locate the vehicle involved. Coronel was placed in custody and taken to the department for processing.

Coronel was charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident, a class A misdemeanor, as well as four traffic infractions: operating a motor vehicle with tinted windows, operating a motor vehicle with no front plate, operating with an obstructed view, and unlicensed operator.

He was released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court at 6 p.m. on March 4.
