Officials shouldn’t claim credit they didn’t earn

Dear Editor,

I’m thrilled that Yorktown Green has been brought back to life – even if it means my family and I have problems finding a parking spot. And it’s good to see the Triangle Shopping Center getting a facelift.

But the credit for these revitalization projects goes to the owners of the shopping centers, not town officials. And contrary to what Supervisor Ed Lachterman and Councilman Sergio Esposito keep saying, they had nothing to do with revitalizing either shopping center. Or, for that matter, leasing vacant stores.

They should stop taking credit--in speeches and photo-ops--for what they didn’t do.

Best,

-Peter Cleary
