NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - The North Salem Central School District has a new director of facilities.
Appointed to the administrative post was Michael Grundig. He officially took over for Dr. Joannes (John) Sieverding late last month.
Asked if Sieverding had retired, a district spokesperson responded that he “was a consultant that is no longer working for North Salem as of Jan. 26, 2025, as we have hired a new director.”
Sieverding could not be reached for comment.
As facilities chief, Grundig will be responsible for ensuring the district’s two buildings – the North Salem Middle/High School and Pequenakonck Elementary School (aka PQ), both located on June Road – and surrounding campuses are running safely and effectively.
Among the big capital projects that the facilities folks have overseen lately are the new $6.9 million turf playing field at the Middle/High School and water filtration systems at the Middle/High School, a project that’s been completed, and the one at PQ, which still has a way to go.
“I’m excited for the challenge,” Grundig said of his new role, adding: “There’s a lot of work to be done here.”
A Westchester native and present Dutchess County resident, Grundig has many years’ worth of experience as an HVAC and plumbing mechanic under his tool belt.
He comes by his vocation naturally. His father was in the plumbing and heating business.
Prior to coming to North Salem, he’d been the Yorktown Central School District’s maintenance foreperson and a HVAC technician, eventually attaining the title of assistant director of facilities.
Grundig, 56, attended Westchester Community College, where he studied mechanical engineering and civil technology. He later worked at the college as an HVAC and plumbing mechanic.
He is married and has two children and a pair of dogs.
