North Salem's Hammond Museum readies for full slate of July events

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - The Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll Garden is set to present an exciting slate of events throughout July, including interactive performances, a Frog Festival, and a beer tasting.

Bucket Drumming with ArtsWestchester ArtsMobile

On Friday, July 10, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the museum will be joined by instructors from ArtsWestchester’s ArtsMobile, who will teach kids and their grownups how to create sounds utilizing each area of a bucket. Free, reservations recommended as seats are limited.

The Waltz: Interactive Performance by Chere Krakovsky

From 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 11. In The Waltz, Krakovsky offers her “hand, an invitation to strangers and friends to be my Waltz partner." Free with museum admission. 

Mindfulness & Creativity

From 10 to 11 a.m. on Sundays, beginning July 12. Join Kanshin Robyn Ellenbogen for sitting meditation and slow-walking through the Japanese Stroll Garden at the Hammond Museum. Everyone is welcome!

Tanabata Celebration

At 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, join in for a fun afternoon for all ages with an interactive telling of the Tanabata story, an overview of the astronomy behind this fable, an origami-making session, and the making and hanging of traditional wish banners (tanzaku). Free with museum admission.

Frog Festival

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, join in for a multi-faceted celebration of the Hammond’s most popular residents: their frogs. Featuring real frogs with Chris Evers of Animal Embassy, puppets with Sova Theater, art projects, and frogs in world cultures. Great for all ages.

Beer Tasting, Artists Panel, and Discussion

At 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 25. In conjunction with an invitation to whet your whistle and try a selection of beers from several Hudson Valley Breweries, the Hammond invites you to participate in a lively discussion inspired by the current exhibition ENOUGH and some of the underlying ideas behind the show. Free with museum admission.

Music by Skin Against Metal

7 p.m. on Saturday, July 25. Skin Against Metal is a rock-jazz experimental trio founded in 2005, that blends hypnotic rhythms, textured electronics and haunting vocals to create industrial cinematic soundscapes. Maurice Minichino-piano & electronics, Nanette Garcia-vocals & percussion, Jame O'Keeffe-bass & electronics.

Ramayana Dance Drama

From 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 26. Presented by the Ananda Ashram East-West School of Dance, directed and choreographed by Pandit S.N. Charka. The Ramayana is one of ancient India’s most revered texts and tells about the adventures and trials of Lord Rama. His ultimate triumph over evil is depicted through dance and music in this unforgettable performance.
