MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. - Westchester County Police responded to a variety of incidents recently, including physical altercations at two different area laundromats.
Feb. 18
A business in the village reported at 11:50 a.m. that someone had fraudulently cashed a check that it had issued to a federal agency and sent through the mail. The check had been altered to make it payable to a person at an address in Manhattan. Patrol officers turned the case over to detectives for additional investigation.
A 37-year-old man was charged at 12:16 p.m. with Assault 3rd Degree, a misdemeanor, after he punched another man in the face several times at a laundromat on Main Street. An officer, who was conducting an inspection of the premises due to recent complaints of public drinking there, walked in as the assault was occurring and immediately took the suspect into custody. The victim suffered bleeding and lacerations to his face and was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital Center. It was subsequently determined that the suspect had an active arrest warrant issued by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. He was held for arraignment and eventual transfer to state custody.
A Grove Street resident reported at 9:01 p.m. that someone was tapping on her window from outside. She said she was too scared to look out and could not provide any description. Responding officers did not locate anyone outside the home. The resident was advised to call again if the issue reoccurred.
Report received at 9:16 p.m. of a man causing a disturbance inside a deli on Main Street. At management’s request, the man was removed from the store and told he would be arrested for trespass if he returned.
Feb. 19
Report received at 12:05 p.m. that a man suffered a facial injury in an assault at a store on North Bedford Road. Responding officers learned that the man was actually injured in a fall. The injured party was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital Center.
Feb. 20
Report received at 2 p.m. of three men trying to break into cars in the parking lot of 333 North Bedford Road. The three suspects fled in a silver Audi upon arrival of a patrol officer. The officer attempted a traffic stop on North Bedford Road but the driver would not pull over. The Aviation Unit helicopter arrived on scene and tracked the fleeing vehicle as it fled at high speeds up the Saw Mill River Parkway and I-684 and onto I-84 east. Based on information provided by Aviation, Connecticut State Police were positioned to deploy stop sticks near Exit 2 and brought the suspect vehicle to a halt. After a foot pursuit the three suspects were apprehended. Charges in both states are pending.
Feb. 21
Report received at 4:16 a.m. of a verbal dispute and shoving match between two patrons of a laundromat on Lexington Avenue. Officers calmed the situation, and both men agreed to avoid further contact with each other while waiting for their laundry to be done.
