SOMERS, N.Y. - Three students from Somers Intermediate School were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after their bus was struck by another vehicle last week.
Just after 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, members of the Somers Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the intersection of Route 202 and Old Croton Falls Road where an SUV had collided head-on with the driver’s side bumper of a bus carrying students from SIS.
All students and bus staff were examined by medical personnel at the scene. Three students, along with the bus driver, were transported to an area hospital for further evaluation. Parents were quickly notified by the district and eventually reunited with their children.
“Thank you to our first responders for swiftly arriving at the scene,” Superintendent Dr. Adam Bronstein wrote in a statement to district parents informing them of the accident.
The SVFD was assisted at the scene by personnel from Westchester EMS, New York State Police, Westchester County Police, and the Somers and Carmel Police Departments, with the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps providing standby units.
The road was closed for an hour and a half due to the incident.
