Posted

A man was taken to a local hospital for evaluation after an incident involving a pursuit, a knife and threats toward law enforcement officers in Yorktown and Cortlandt on Thursday.

At approximately 3:35 p.m., Yorktown police officers were following up on a previous mental health call involving an individual believed to be experiencing a crisis. Officers located the man’s vehicle on Route 6 in Yorktown and attempted to conduct a welfare check, but he allegedly fled, according to Yorktown police.

The pursuit was terminated shortly afterward due to public safety concerns. Information about the vehicle was shared with surrounding law enforcement agencies through the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center.

The vehicle was later located in Cortlandt by members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. When officers approached, the man allegedly brandished a knife and fled. The vehicle was stopped a short time later on Westbrook Drive in Cortlandt, where police said the man remained armed with the knife and threatened responding officers.

After several minutes, officers were able to get the man to discard the knife and exit the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital without further incident for evaluation and treatment.

Yorktown police did not release the man's name or age.

The incident involved assistance from the New York State Police, Westchester County Police, FBI Safe Streets Task Force, Peekskill Police Department and the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center.
