Mayor Cindrich and Trustees Flora and Guerra fight for local zoning control

Posted

Dear Editor,

Democrat State Sen. Peter Harckham is proposing legislation that would authorize NY State to bypass local zoning codes in order to allow houses of worship to build high-density multi-family low income housing and housing for the homeless on their properties.

The “Faith-Based Affordable Housing Act” is just the State’s latest attempt to override local control over zoning. It is the latest iteration of the widely unpopular “Pro-Housing Community Program.”

Mount Kisco proper has 10 houses of worship with at least one, the Fountain Of Eternal Life Church, sitting on approximately eight acres. Envision a high-rise apartment building housing formerly homeless individuals placed in the middle of a single-family neighborhood.

Here are just some of the reasons why this legislation would be catastrophic for Mount Kisco:

  • Our fragile and finite limited water supply level is currently well below average.

  • Our sewer system cannot handle further residential development.

  • Our elementary school is already bursting at the seams with no room for further expansion.

  • Additional strain on our already stressed emergency services (police/fire/ambulance)

  • Increased traffic

  • More garbage

  • Increased hospital wait times and room shortages

Notwithstanding the fact that our already overburdened physical and human infrastructure cannot support this latest scheme, implementing this intrusive overreach would have a devastating effect on the property values of all Mount Kisco residents.

We are fortunate that the majority of the current Village Board has demonstrated a history of fighting against threats to local control over zoning, including the so called, “Pro-Community Housing Program.”

Whether it is prioritizing pedestrian safety, improving quality of life, banning large-scale battery storage plants or the responsible placement of macro cell towers & 5G, Independent Village Inclusive Party (VIP) candidates Mayor Michael Cindrich and Trustees Theresa Flora and Angie Guerra have consistently fought to protect the residents and preserve local control over the future of Mount Kisco. They have earned and deserve all our support. Please re-elect them this election cycle.

-Louis Terlizzi, Mount Kisco
